Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to the Congress party’s preparations for Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ rally in Bhubaneswar, the Odisha Driver Mahasangha has pledged not to obstruct vehicles carrying Congress leaders and workers to the state capital.
The decision follows productive discussions between the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and the drivers’ association.
PCC president Bhakta Charan Das, along with several Congress MLAs, appealed to the Mahasangha for cooperation, emphasizing the rally’s significance in the party’s nationwide campaign to protect the Constitution.
The drivers’ union, led by president Prasant Menduli, responded positively, assuring free movement for vehicles from Odisha’s 30 districts heading to the event.
Speaking at a press conference at Congress Bhawan, Das accused the BJP of attempting to disrupt the rally by leveraging the drivers’ ongoing agitation.
“The BJP is conspiring to derail our movement, but we’re committed to taking this fight from the streets to Parliament,” he said.
He urged the Mahasangha to suspend their strike for a day during Rahul Gandhi’s visit and expressed solidarity with the drivers’ demands.
