UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Union County sheriff's investigators say they rarely receive calls about genuine kidnappings, but Wednesday night, they got a call that investigators believe was the real deal.
Officials used every resource they had to find the woman and bring her to safety.
"This was a genuine kidnapping abduction related to a domestic violence-type assault," said Union County Sheriff Public Information Officer Lt. James Maye.
Around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Union County deputies went to a home off of Old Camden Road regarding a possible kidnapping of a woman in her early twenties.
Investigators say the victim had been ambushed and choked by her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Logan Calaway. Officials say Calaway put the woman in her own car and drove away.

In a matter of hours, Calaway and the victim were found in Bennettsville, South Carolina, through the use of flock cameras, which can read license plates. But investigators say this wasn't Calaway's first time kidnapping his ex-girlfriend.
He'd already been arrested for a previous incident in Matthews, where officials say he also forced the victim into a BMW.
He was free for that incident on a $45,000 bond.
"We believe that based on the swift action of our detectives, our deputies and the South Carolina deputies, that we would potentially save her life," he said.
Calaway now sits in a Union County jail cell under a $1 million bond and numerous charges, including violating a domestic protection order.
"He didn't have any regard for that. He just went ahead and committed these severe crimes anyway, which is all that more important that we got him off the street," he said. "We are going to file every applicable criminal offense against him to make sure he's held accountable and hopefully kept off streets for the for the foreseeable future."
Lt. Maye encourages victims and potential domestic violence victims to call 911, so records can be kept. He also urges neighbors to be alert of their surroundings and if issues continue, begin a protective order process.
