People who live in a south suburban mobile home park have become ensnared in a stressful situation.
“It is hard for us to sleep at night,” one resident said. “You get emotional cause you don’t know where you are going to go.”
Officials in Blue Island said the Forest View Mobile Home Park poses health and safety concerns for people living on the premises. The city also revoked the property owner’s business license.
Tenant are in a desperate search to find a new place to live that they can afford. Many have stopped paying their rent.
“I have lived here about 10 years. My parents – 20 years. My uncle – 26. So we have been out here quite long time,” said Sheila Ware.
Ware said on Wednesday, residents received a letter stating they have five days before court proceedings. “But the owners are still not telling us nothing,” she said.
The mayor of Blue Island shared the following statement: “The owners of Forest View Mobile Home Park are and have been operating an unsafe and dangerous property…Which has forced the city to take the necessary step of revoking the property’s business license…It is well past time for the owners to take responsibility for a situation of their own making and take all legal steps to cease operations.”
NBC Chicago reached out to the owner and their attorney, and we were awaiting a response as of Thursday night. A majority of tenants are also now working with an attorney to help them figure out their next steps.
