Vehicle fleeing police pursuit slams into PACE bus, leaving 11 hurt

A vehicle fleeing a suburban Blue Island police stop slammed into a PACE bus in Chicago, leaving at least 11 people injured.

Blue Island police told NBC Chicago officers had attempted to pull over a vehicle that had disregarded a red light, but that vehicle fled northbound on Halsted Street.

The vehicle then slammed into a PACE bus near the intersection of Vermont and Halsted at approximately 7:30 p.m., just inside of Chicago city limits, according to Chicago police.

At least two other vehicles were also involved in the collision, authorities said.

Chicago fire officials say at least nine individuals were taken to area hospitals by paramedics, five of whom were listed in red (serious-to-critical) condition.

It is unclear at this time how many of the individuals were on the bus or in other vehicles, and an investigation remains underway.
