HAMLIN, N.Y. — Part of Hamlin Beach is closed on Wednesday because of elevated levels of the bacteria E. coli.
The New York State Park’s website says section H3A of the beach is closed. However, other sections of the beach along Lake Ontario State Parkway remain open, since they passed water quality tests that the state conducts at least once a week.
The tests found that the section of Hamlin Beach exceeds the state’s E. coli standards. According to the state, there are many different causes for elevated bacteria levels, including stormwater runoff, decaying plant or animal material, or naturally occurring sand or soil bacteria.
Check the state park’s website to see whether the beach has reopened.
