As the ongoing indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Doha entere their third day on Tuesday, a source familiar with the progress said there was “no breakthrough so far, and negotiations are continuing” in the Qatari capital.
The indirect negotiations resumed earlier on Tuesday in Doha to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza Strip.
A Palestinian source told Agence France-Presse that “indirect negotiations between the two sides, with the presence of Egyptian and Qatari mediators, are continuing in Doha regarding the mechanisms for implementing the proposal.”
He noted that the negotiations “focus on discussing the mechanisms for the Israeli army’s withdrawal from Gaza Strip, the entry of aid, and a ceasefire.”
The source described the negotiations as “difficult,” adding that “Hamas is serious about reaching an agreement, and it is hoped that the American side will pressure Israel to reach a ceasefire agreement and exchange prisoners and hostages.”
In addition, the Israeli army said that five of its soldiers were killed and two were seriously injured during clashes in northern Gaza Strip.
US President Donald Trump expressed his confidence that Hamas is seeking a truce and ceasefire in Gaza Strip during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday.
Regarding what reasons may have be preventing a truce agreement so far, the US President affirmed, “I don’t think there is an obstacle… I think things are going well.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also announced that he had nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, noting that he had given the latter a copy of the nomination letter during their meeting at the White House.
Israel’s forces continue their aggression on the Gaza Strip, targeting civilian homes and shelters for displaced persons, killing 13 Palestinians, including children and women, and wounding dozens more, in a series of violent airstrikes across the strip.
