Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has predicted tougher times for new Test captain Shubman Gill ahead. The number 4 batter led the team to a historic 336-run win against England at Edgbaston, which also happened to be his first victory as captain. India put up an all-round performance in ENG vs IND 2nd Test to bounce back from the loss at Leed’s and level the series 1-1.

Ganguly predicts tough times ahead for captain Gill

Speaking to reporters on his birthday at the Eden Gardens, Ganguly said that Gill was currently in his honemoon period as captain. He said that the Indian captain would face increasing preassure in the reminder of the three Tests. The former Indian skipper, however, lavished praise on Gill – the batter, claiming that it was the best of what he had seen and that he wasn’t surprised.

    “He has just become captain, it’s a honeymoon period. But there would be more pressure with time. The pressure will build in the next three Tests,” Ganguly said.

    Gill eteched his name in the records books with his 269 and 161-run knocks in Brimingham. He is now the youngest Indian captain to win a Test (at the age of 25). Gill also became the first Indian batter to score a double century and a 150 in a single game. Experts have lavished praise on the Punjab batter for showing improved technique which effectively was translating into perfect temparament and runs.

    The Indian captain is the leading run-getter in the ongoing series with 585 runs to his name from 4 innings, averaging 146.25.

    India will next take on England in the ENG vs IND 3rd Test at Lord’s from July 10 onwards.
