Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark is very confident in his league this fall.
Yormark spoke at the start of Big 12 Media Days on Tuesday and said he expects multiple teams to earn College Football Playoff bids this year.
Brett Yormark: "I expect the Big 12 to earn multiple College Football Playoff bids this year"
— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) July 8, 2025The Big 12 did not get particularly close to multiple bids a year ago. Arizona State earned the league’s only CFP spot by virtue of winning the Big 12 Championship. The Sun Devils finished 11-2 and snagged the No. 12 spot in the final CFP rankings, although they earned the No. 4 seed thanks to their conference championship.
The next-best Big 12 team was BYU, who finished 17th with a 10-2 record. The Cougars slotted in behind Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss and South Carolina, all of whom missed out on a CFP berth last year.
Looking ahead to 2025, there’s no consensus favorite at the top of the league. Utah, Kansas State, Arizona State, Baylor and Texas Tech are all co-favorites at +600 to win the Big 12, per the latest odds from BetMGM.
That cluster of co-favorites could prove to be problematic for the Big 12 if it results in every team taking on multiple losses — as it did last season. That’s once again the expectation from the betting markets as well. Per FanDuel, there’s not a single Big 12 team with a preseason win total higher than 8.5.
