Dense fog develops Tuesday morning as a large and powerful high pressure system moves into the area. This will create a temperature inversion meaning warm and dry air sitting atop col and moist air over the ocean waters. This allows dense fog to roll in over major highways and reduce visibility for most early morning commuters. Low clouds clear out close to late breakfast and skies clear out closer to late lunch. Offshore flow will reestablish and we warm fast. Have windows down and air conditioning on! Highs jump 5+ degrees and most beaches rise into the 70s and 80s. Mid 90s and above are expected inland. Fire risk is increased for the far interior due to the heat and offshore winds along with low humidity values. This is tough for firefighters working on the Madre fire.
Dense fog will reappear Wednesday as the temperature inversion strengthens. Winds will be light enough for dense fog to develop close to breakfast time. Similar clearing and warming pattern is projected. If you work outside or plan on any strenuous activity it is important to practice fire and heat safety. Hydrate when possible and be aware of your surroundings. Look before you lock as car temperatures can soar. Fire risk is heightened yet again, and some smoke and haze from the Madre fire may impact air quality issues.
The last day of heat will be Thursday. High pressure begins to break down by the weekend and onshore flow is reestablished. Marine clouds will fill the skies yet again every morning. Clearing evenings and a toasty but similar weather pattern expected next week.
