Jake Paul’s next fight date revealed as preferred option named: ‘As soon as possible’

Jake Paul will fight once more before the year is out.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr last month in Anaheim, California, to earn a controversial cruiserweight world ranking with the WBA.

Paul is expected to return to the ring at the back end of the yearAFP

Paul now occupies the No.14 position with the major sanctioning body, and so is eligible to face unified WBA and WBO champion Gilberto Ramirez.

‘The Problem Child’s’ manager Nakisa Bidarian insists that Paul is intent upon fighting for a world title ‘as soon as possible’.

However, he concedes that it is unlikely to happen next, given the current lay of the land at 200lbs.

“Absolutely [he will fight again this year]. November or December,” Bidarian told Ariel Helwani when asked about Paul’s next steps.

“I’m seeing him tonight for dinner, and we will have a conversation [about his next opponent].

“The only possibility right now is that Jake wants to fight for a belt as soon as possible.

“I have to talk to him, I think it’s tough this year [to box for a world title].

“Badou Jack is who he wants to fight more than anyone, and he has a mandatory rematch with the guy he just beat [Noel Mikaelian] for the WBC.

“I don’t know if this year is possible [for the title fight], but we’ll see.”

Badou Jack snatched the WBC cruiserweight title from Noel Mikaelian in May via a heavily disputed decision.

Mikaelian’s handlers then lodged an appeal with the WBC for an immediate rematch, which was subsequently approved.

At the time of writing, the WBC have not released their latest cruiserweight rankings.

However, in the lead-up to Paul’s last fight, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman insisted that the organisation would consider ranking him if he beat Chavez Jr.

Remarkably, Paul could feature in the world rankings of two major sanctioning bodies in July, or on the flip side, he may be removed from the equation entirely.

According to Ring Magazine, the WBA is set to review Paul’s position at their upcoming European convention in Madrid (July 15-18) after receiving considerable backlash from other ranked contenders.

While on paper, Chavez Jr was Paul’s best victory to date, the Mexican wasn’t ranked by the WBA heading into fight night and hadn’t had a notable win since 2012.
