Irondequoit town supervisor candidate set to be arraigned on Tuesday

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — A candidate running for Irondequoit town supervisor is due for an arraignment on Tuesday morning in Irondequoit Town Court.

Anthony Costanza is accused of abuse of power in his former role as the Irondequoit town assessor. We’re still working to learn why he’s been charged. He’s also charged with official misconduct, conflict of interest, and recusal and abstention, according to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.

Court paperwork says that Costanza “committed an act relating to his office but constituting an unauthorized exercise of his official functions, knowing that such act was unauthorized.”

Costanza, the Republican candidate, has denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations “politically motivated.” He says he plans to speak to reporters following his arraignment. Here is his statement from June:

“I categorically deny all allegations of wrongdoing. The evidence will show I executed my duties as the Town of Irondequoit Assessor within all laws and beyond reproach. These charges are 100% politically motivated. I look forward to my day in court.”

The current Irondequoit town supervisor, Andrae Evans, was censured twice after allegations of sexual harassment against a female employee of the town. He has denied the allegations and has filed a lawsuit against the Monroe County Board of Elections to try to get back on the ballot for reelection.
