In a massive development, Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, has dropped a big hint about the Indian cricket superstar’s chances to feature in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. With the nation still coming to terms with Virat Kohli’s recent retirement from Test cricket, questions around his ODI future have dominated discussions.
The former Indian cricketer retired from T20I cricket last year after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean, and in May 2025, he called time on his glorious Test career just a week before the team’s ongoing England tour for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Now, the dashing right-handed batter is active in the only ODI cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). After his Test retirement, there have been concerns over Kohli’s ambitions to finish his career in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa due to a lack of game time with the Men in Blue.

Virat Kohli's nephew becomes leg-spinner, bags Delhi Premier League deal
Meanwhile, Kohli is known as one of the greatest batters of this generation, but it seems that the next generation in his family is following a different path in the game of cricket. The Indian batting icon’s childhood coach revealed that Kohli’s nephew Aryaveer, son of his brother Vikas Kohli, has chosen to become a leg-spinner instead of a batter like his famous uncle.
Even Ayush, son of Kohli’s sister Bhawna, is also a leg-spinner. Recently, Aryaveer was picked by the South Delhi Superstarz during the Delhi Premier League 2025 auction for the second season. Aryaveer was part of the players’ pool for DPL for the first time, and he was signed for ₹1 lakh.

Rajkumar Sharma was quoted as saying by News18 CricketNext: “I am glad. Aryaveer is a promising, sincere, and hardworking kid. The Delhi Premier League is a good platform for him to go ahead in his career. Aryaveer was always a good bowler. Not just him, but Ayush is a leg-spinner too.”
Ever did Aryaveer feel the pressure of the Kohli surname?
The coach also revealed that Aryaveer never felt the pressure of the Kohli surname, and he is a simple kid and has never tried to take advantage of his uncle’s name. Notably, Aryaveer and Ayush are both training at the West Delhi Cricket Academy, where Kohli also learned the game.
This is the academy where Virat trained under coach Rajkumar, and now the next generation of his family is following in his footsteps, hoping to make their own mark in the game.
Notably, Kohli and Anushka Sharma were recently spotted enjoying world-class tennis action at Wimbledon’s Centre Court on Monday. They watched the match between Novak Djokovic and Australia’s Alex De Minaur. The intense match lasted for three hours and marked Djokovic’s 101st win at Wimbledon
