PHELPS, N.Y. – There was a possible tornado in the town of Phelps in Ontario County on Monday.
A line of heavy thunderstorms rolled across Western New York late Monday afternoon. Video and pictures from the scene appear to show a funnel cloud and possible tornado touchdown in the town of Phelps. Phelps is in the northeast corner of Ontario County. Pictures appear to show extensive damage to trees and at least one building having significant damage.
This is not confirmed as a tornado and could be the result of straight-line winds. The National Weather Service will have to do a survey to determine the extent of the damage and the type of storm that produced the damage.
Ontario County announced that County Road 23 is closed from Melvin Hill Road to Fort Hill Road, and Fort Hill Road is closed from the Village of Phelps to County Road 23.
News10NBC will be at the site of the damage with a complete report on News10NBC at 11 P.M.
