AVON, N.Y. – A recent storm in Avon caused significant flooding, pushing water into homes. Heather Gabriel, a resident of Wadsworth Avenue, said she saw raw sewage flowing into her home during the storm.
Gabriel said the smell lingered even after days of mopping the basement.
“We’ve lost a lot,” Gabriel said. “And unfortunately, the stress that comes with it now, knowing that there’s more storms coming, you just don’t know the next time it’s going to happen.”
Gabriel and her family have lived in Avon for five years. She said that during the last flood, sewer water came up through their basement drains. To prepare for future storms, they purchased pumps.
After the storm ended, Gabriel and her husband noticed water overflowing from their sewer drain. Gabriel said she has reached out to the town and village of Avon for an explanation.
Gabriel plans to speak at a public meeting Monday night before the town board about her issues. News10NBC’s Erin Mahon reached out to the town and village for comments. The town said the village is responsible for the sewer lines in Gabriel’s area. Officials said neighbors will have “opportunities discussed on this topic” at tonight’s meeting.
