A second Broadway brewery announces closure after nearly a decade

Denver’s craft beer scene continued its dramatic implosion Monday when Banded Oak Brewing, a small beer maker at 470 Broadway, said it would close at the end of September.

Founded in 2015 by industry professionals Chris Kirk and Will Curtin, Banded Oak brewed an extremely wide variety of beers, from easily approachable ones to heavier styles.

“Been trying to announce this for a couple of weeks now, hoping there would be a slow news week. Obviously, that’s a fool’s errand after all the brewery closing bombshells we’ve had lately,” the owners wrote on social media. “So here it goes. After 10 years, Banded Oak Brewing will close at the end of September.

“Yes, we will still be a venue for [the Underground Music Showcase], end of July, and yes, we will have a big blowout Oktoberfest party in September to celebrate all the support this neighborhood has shown us. Without you guys, we could not have made it and we are so grateful for all the parties and memories that Broadway has given us.

“We love you guys and cheers to having a great last couple months.”

On Thursday, TRVE Brewing said it will also close its taproom at 227 Broadway, along with its second location in Asheville, N.C. TRVE had been there since 2012.

These closures come on top of other recent exits, including Great Divide, which was purchased by Wilding Brands in May and closed its taprooms the next month; Cerveceria Colorado, an offshoot of Denver Beer Co., which also folded after being purchased by Wilding Brands; and Blue Moon Brewing, a Coors property, which closed at the end of March.
