Yakov Smirnoff isn't thinking about retirement. The legendary comedian is getting ready to tackle diaper duty again.
Smirnoff, 74, and his wife, Olivia Kosarieva, are expecting their first child together, they told PEOPLE.
"At my age, most people are planning for retirement. Me? I’m buying diapers. Not for me — but for our future child. Yes, my wife and I are having a baby!" Smirnoff elaborated to PEOPLE. "People keep asking me, 'Yakov, how did this happen?' And I say, 'Same way it always happens… just with more stretching and heating pads afterward.'"

With two grown children of his own already, Smirnoff and his wife were "shocked, but in a good way" when they found out they were expecting.
"I have two grown children already, but they haven’t had kids yet. So we figured, we’d just go ahead and make our own grandchild," he laughed. "We’ll skip a generation!"
Both Smirnoff and his wife cried upon hearing the baby's heartbeat for the first time. Naturally, Smirnoff found the opportunity to make jokes about the situation.
"She was crying because she realized she has to give birth. I was crying because this kid is going to college one day, and with my genes, there’s no chance of an athletic or academic scholarship — unless making people laugh counts as extra credit," he noted.
Smirnoff said he plans on savoring the parenting journey this time around, and that he sees "something magical" in being able to tackle parenthood again.
"In the end, becoming a dad again wasn’t just part of the plan. It turned out better than the plan," he added. "And only in America… can you have a baby, be eligible for Medicare, and get a senior discount on diapers all at the same time. What a country!"
