Paul Finebaum has been through a lot of big runs produced by Alabama football. That includes some legendary title runs, and it also involves some historic recruiting classes for the Crimson Tide.
Recently, Alabama has ripped off another prime recruiting run under head coach Kalen DeBoer. Entering his 2nd season with the program, DeBoer is racking up 5-star recruits and showcasing an ability to keep the prime recruiting pipeline flowing to Tuscaloosa.
During Finebaum’s Monday appearance for “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning,” Finebaum was asked about that stretch, and the SEC Network host described it as one where DeBoer is incapable of a misstep. As for the basis of the heater, Finebaum pointed to the iconic brand of the Crimson Tide living on and the stability being showcased.
“I think at this moment in time, Kalen DeBoer can do no wrong. He is dialing up everything on the recruiting trail,” Finebaum explained. “I think some of it, and I know he’s using it with friends and to fans alike, that there is stability in the program. And that goes back to not losing anyone in the portal. I really think that helps the momentum, and I think you can say this a thousand times and fans will shake their heads, but you and I know it’s true. The brand of Alabama remains large, and I think it just goes to show as great as Nick Saban was, this program lives on because there is a very strong infrastructure there, and Kalen DeBoer is now able to take advantage of it.”
Despite a somewhat rough first season with losses to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma, DeBoer has been able to solidify everything and prove the program is not going anywhere, even in the new-age world of NIL payments and incoming revenue sharing.
“… He has calmed everything down, he’s got a good staff, he’s got a great GM. He’s getting what he needs, and that I think is the biggest surprise because a lot of people, including myself, wondered could Alabama hang in this Texas oil money world that we live in, where it’s hard to keep up with certain programs,” said Finebaum. “But they are, and I think there is a flip side to that, but as great as Alabama looks at this particular moment, Auburn looks equally as bad.”
Coming out of the July 4 weekend, Alabama now holds a quartet of 5-star pledges for the 2026 recruiting class and 9 of the top 100 players in the entire country. That group is up to the No. 5 class in the entire country per the team composite, and things could climb even higher before we reach the Early Signing Period.
