Family, volunteers search for missing man who disappeared in Broomfield

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (KDVR) — Sunday, dozens of people came together at the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge in Broomfield to search for Paul Aragon.

The 34-year-old hasn't been seen in nearly two months.

“Every week that passes by adds to the anxiousness," said Jonise Aragon, Paul's little sister.

Aargon was reported missing by his mother back on May 8.

"He was last heard from or seen on April 30, but honestly, every day we’ve been looking, asking for information from the public," said Jonise.

Police say Aargon was living in his truck at the time of his disappearance. That same truck was discovered on May 2 in a construction area off Edgeview Drive. The truck's engine was reportedly still running with the lights on, and his dog was still inside.

“I didn’t think it was something. Paul is very independent. He is tough. He is strong. He’s probably one of the strongest people I know," said Mercedes Hess. "So, I wasn’t initially worried. When they found his truck, panic struck. He would never leave that dog. He loves that dog."

Hess says she was Aragon's girlfriend for five months.

“We were out at Superior Connections, which is a transitional house out in Colorado Springs," said Hess. "Paul and I were working as peer coaches. He helped a lot of people with their addictions. He was really there for a lot of people. This has been hard. I can’t imagine how his family feels."

She joined dozens of people on foot and on ATVs to search for him.

“I refuse to believe he is gone. So, we're going to do what we can here," said Hess. "He loves his daughter so much; he would never leave her. Something happened and we’re not going to stop until we figure out what that is.”

The group searched a two to three-mile radius through tall grass and bushes at the site, looking for any clues.

“His phone was reportedly pinged around this area," said Jonise. "We’re really just out here looking for anything we can to help us find him.”

Aragon's family thanked everyone for giving their time to help search on Sunday. They plan to conduct other searches in the future.

"I wish we were a little more assistance with the police department," said Jonise. "It would settle out hearts a little. We don’t know what we’re doing. We’re just doing the best we can, figuring it out as we go.”

Hess says she rescued Aragon's dog, so they can be reunited when he is found.

Paul Aragon is described as a 34-year-old male with black hair, brown eyes and white skin. He is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds. He also has a koi fish sleeve tattoo on his left arm.
