India paceman Akash Deep returned with his finest two bowling figures in his Test career, which helped India secure the iconic victory over England at Edgbaston for the first time in cricket history.
India has aced their way to win the iconic Edgbaston test against England. If anyone deserves a large proportion of credit for winning this game for India, it’s none other than Indian pacer Akash Deep, who claimed a 10-wicket haul in the second Test. This was the second such feat by an Indian bowler ever since Chetan Sharma back in 1986.
Akash Deep was interviewed by former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara after the winning moment for India. With the red ball and the wicket in hand, Akash Deep was asked how his family would feel about this stunning performance from him.
In the same interview, Akash revealed that his elder sister has been battling cancer over the past two months. He mentioned that he wanted to put on his best on the field to bring a smile to the face of his ailing sister.
“My older sister has been suffering from cancer for the last two months. Now she is stable. She will be very happy after all that she has gone through mentally, and I dedicate this match to her. I want to see a smile on her face," said Akash.
“This performance is for you. Whenever I picked up the ball, only thoughts of my sister crossed my mind. I am with you. I want to see happiness on your face; we are all together with you,” Akash said in support of his sister.
The ace bowler dedicated his terrific performance to his sister, and it will be interesting to see if he can play a role in India's first-ever series victory in England since 2007, citing the 1-1 level-up at Birmingham.

The 28-year-old Indian pacer Akash was brought into the Indian side as a replacement for ace-pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested to manage his workload before India advanced to Lord's to take on England for the third test.
The decision made by the Indian management was largely criticized at Birmingham, as India had faced a humiliating defeat in the first test at Headingley. However, Akash did not step back from keeping up with his duties in England.
He picked up 4 wickets in the first innings, which included the crucial wickets of several greats in the English batting lineup, and later achieved the same feat in the second innings as well, where he picked 6 wickets to earn a victory for India.
Will India consider Akash Deep for the Lord's Test?
India is likely to bring back the ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah into the playing 11 for the third test at Lord's. Citing this, Akash, who was brought into the side as Bumrah's replacement, would be unsure for the upcoming test.
However, after the impactful performance from Akash Deep in Edgbaston, under no condition would he be dropped from the India playing 11. A probable assumption could be made that Jasprit Bumrah will be back in the side as a replacement for Prasidh Krishna.
This would hence mark Jasprit Bumrah, accompanied by Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, as pacers for the India vs England third test at Lord's.
