China has imposed new restrictions on government purchases of high-value medical devices from the European Union:

Beijing criticised the EU for pursuing "protectionist barriers" despite China’s "goodwill," and said retaliatory action was necessary.
China clarified that products from European companies already operating within China will not be affected by the new measures.
China and the EU are due to hold a leaders' summit in China later this month.
