Sheriff’s officials in north suburban Lake County were investigating after a Niles woman died in a three-vehicle crash, police said.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Saturday along West Russell Road at Frontage Road in Wadsworth. The driver of a 2020 Porsche Macan was traveling westbound on Russell Road, approaching a stop sign, when he failed to stop, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The driver struck a 2016 Chevrolet Volt at a high rate of speed, police said. The force of the collision caused the Chevrolet to crash into a third vehicle, a 2020 Mercedes-Benz. A 33-year-old Niles woman riding in the Chevrolet was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead, sheriff’s officials said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 35-year-old man, and a second passenger in the vehicle, a 4-year-old girl, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, a 37-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 40-year-old man from Schaumburg, were also hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police stated.
The man driving the Porsche, a 58-year-old Addison resident, was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Speed and alcohol were likely factors for the driver of the Porsche, police stated, adding criminal charges will likely be filed after he is discharged from the hospital.
The crash remained under investigation on Sunday evening.
