An arson investigation is underway after a vegetation fire broke out near a hotel in Escondido shortly after police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area.
Escondido police responded around 2:30 p.m. Sunday to a call about an unusual vehicle near 200 La Terraza Blvd. Minutes later, reports came in of a vegetation fire at the same location, according to OnScene.TV.
Firefighters quickly responded and upgraded the blaze to a second alarm due to its proximity to SpringHill Suites and other nearby buildings. The fire has since been extinguished.
Police are still searching for the vehicle and its occupants, Onscene.TV reported.
