PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed relief pitcher Ryan Thompson on the 15-day injured list and recalled pitcher Bryce Jarvis from Triple-A Reno on Sunday.
Thompson was placed on the IL retroactive to Saturday with a scapular strain in his shoulder. He last threw an inning on Friday against the Kansas City Royals, his seventh straight appearance without giving up an earned run.
This has been an up-and-down season for Thompson after he provided much stability in the bullpen in 2023-24.

His ERA ballooned to 7.50 on May 19 (19 appearances), but in 17 appearances since then, his ERA is an elite 0.63 (one earned run in 14.1 innings). His season-long ERA is 4.45, and 27 of his 36 appearances have come without an earned run.
Thompson joins relievers A.J. Puk (elbow surgery), Justin Martinez (elbow surgery), Christian Montes De Oca (back surgery) and Kendall Graveman (hip impingement) on the injured list, along with Cristian Mena (teres major strain), who had been working in relief in the major leagues.
Diamondbacks recall Bryce Jarvis
Jarvis returns to the majors as a long relief option having continued to work as a starting pitcher in Reno. He threw three innings with one earned run in his last major league appearance on June 10, after which he made three starts in Reno that did not go great (12 runs and eight walks in 12.1 innings).
With the Diamondbacks playing eight more games before the All-Star break without a day off, Jarvis provides length in the bullpen and is gassed up having last pitched on June 29.
Anthony DeSclafani is getting a spot start on Sunday to give the rotation a breather, and Jarvis would be a long man out of the pen if needed.
Catch Sunday’s game at 1:10 p.m. on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app.
