LOTTO players have been urged to check their tickets as someone is sitting on a Lucky Day Lotto ticket worth $1.1 million.
A prize won at a Chicago drawing last September will soon expire if it goes unclaimed.
Lucky Day Lotto is a daily Illinois-only lottery game, drawn twice daily, where players pick 5 numbers from 1 to 45.
Although Lucky Day Lotto typically offers smaller jackpots than Powerball or Mega Millions, one lucky player matched all five numbers in a recent drawing and won a million-dollar prize.
The odds of winning the Lucky Day Lotto jackpot – matching all five numbers in a 5/45 game – are one in 1,221,759, according to the lottery’s website.
But the prize has gone unclaimed – and as with other major lotteries, winners have one year from the drawing date to claim daily draw prizes before they expire.
Southwest Chicago Post wrote in a Facebook post: “Time is starting to run out for whoever bought a $1.1 million Lucky Day Lotto ticket last September at Miska’s Liquors, 6410 W. 63rd Street.
“Such tickets expire after a year.”
Lucky Day Lotto began in 1988 as a “Cash 5” draw using a 5‑from‑35 matrix.
The game’s name officially changed to Lucky Day Lotto in 2012, with its current format adopted in 2014.
It comes as a Powerball player won a $50,000 prize after they landed a Match 4 (four matching white balls) plus Powerball.
The prize must be claimed by August 9 or the money will return to one of Powerball’s jurisdictions.
Meanwhile, another $50,000 prize won at Louisiana Marty J’s Truck Stop, 4994 Hwy 56, Chauvin, in Lousiana on February 14 has also not yet been claimed.
The player has until August 14 to come forward.
Similarly unclaimed from a draw held in Louisiana is a $50,000 prize won on February 24 at Wilderness Acres, 14759 Highway 15, Downsville.
This prize will expire on August 23.
In both cases, the players landed a Match 4 plus Powerball.
The odds of winning the $50,000 prize are one in 913,129.18, according to the Powerball website.
Meanwhile, the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are one in 292,201,338.
This makes lottery players slightly more likely to win the Powerball jackpot than the Mega Millions one, which has odds of one in 302,575,350.
