A woman is facing murder charges after three children were found stabbed inside of a burning building in the Logan Square neighborhood Friday.
Wendy Tolbert, 45, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection to the incident in the 3600 block of West Palmer, which unfolded Friday morning.
According to police, officers were called to a home for reports of a person with a knife at approximately 9:12 a.m.
Police determined during their investigation that three children inside the building had been stabbed, and then the residence was set on fire.
One of those children, a 4-year-old boy identified by authorities as Jordan Wallace, was stabbed in the chest and was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A 10-year-old boy was stabbed in the right arm and was taken to a hospital in serious condition, while a 13-year-old girl was stabbed multiple times in the face, back and chest, and was hospitalized in critical condition, police said.
Additionally, a 31-year-old woman and 34-year-old man from an adjacent residence were transported in fair condition to Stroger Hospital for smoke inhalation. Three responding officers were also taken to nearby hospitals for smoke inhalation.
In addition to murder charges, Tolbert was also charged with six counts of felony aggravated arson, along with multiple counts of aggravated battery.
