An unusual moment temporarily halted play during Day 2 of the ongoing second Test between Australia and the West Indies in Grenada. A stray dog invaded the pitch, and players Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood tried to chase it off the field, leaving fans in the stands and cricketers in splits.
Australia are currently touring the West Indies for the three-match series, which is part of the ICC Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. The visiting team secured the victory in the first match to take a 1-0 lead. Australia finished at 221/7 at stumps on Day 3 with a 254-run lead in the second innings so far.
The incident occurred shortly after Josh Hazlewood dismissed Roston Chase in the 33rd over. The dog sauntered onto the field at deep cover and refused to move, despite the efforts of Hazlewood and skipper Pat Cummins.
The broadcasters stepped in with a unique solution, deploying a drone to scare the dog away. The buzzing drone successfully startled the dog, allowing the match to resume.
The light-hearted moment drew laughter from players and fans alike, with Windies Cricket capturing the mood on social media by calling it “a brief intrusion by a furry friend.”

Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood tried to chase the dog off the field, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Some experts criticized the interruption, calling it made the high-level Test match feel more like a casual club game.
“There is dog on the field! The black canine has taken it upon himself to plug the gap at deep cover. He’s stubborn too, the Aussie players’ efforts to remove him from the arena weren’t successful so the broadcaster has called in their drone to chase him away!” the blog, reported by Cricket Australia, stated.
Australia Hold the Upper Hand in WI vs AUS 2nd Test
Australia have the upper hand in the second Test against the West Indies, but the hosts are still in with a chance. After Australia were bowled out for 286 in their first innings, the West Indies responded with 253. Brandon King and Shai Hope added a 58-run partnership, their highest of the innings.
Australia regained control on Day 3. They ended the day at 221/7 in their second innings, extending their lead to 254 runs. Steve Smith was the top performer for Australia with 71, while Cameron Green contributed 52 runs.
With the pitch beginning to show signs of deterioration, Australia will look to add more runs on Day 4 to tighten their grip on the match. The West Indies, who took seven wickets on Day 3, need to wrap up the innings quickly and chase a manageable target to stay in the contest.
