England batting coach Marcus Trescothick shared his admiration and frustration after Shubman Gill’s sensational batting during the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Trescothick admitted that he was “fed up” with watching Gill bat but acknowledged the brilliance behind the Indian batter’s performance.
Shubman Gill has been in superb form with the bat in the five-match Test series in England. He scored 269 runs in the first innings of the second Test. The right-handed batter added 161 in the second, taking his match total to 430 runs. India are on the verge of victory, needing just seven wickets on the final day.
Speaking to the BBC, Marcus Trescothick said that Gill’s relentless run-scoring had become frustrating to watch due to its sheer dominance. Trescothick commended Gill’s dedication, concentration, fitness, and skill, calling the achievement truly special.
“Well, I’m fed up of watching him bat really. As much as I like watching batters get runs, he’s played brilliantly well, superbly well in in both games. But in particular this game here getting sort of 250 and then, you know, another 150," Trescothick said.
"You know, that’s that’s pretty special. The volume of runs, it’s not many people have done that. So you got to admire his sort of dedication, his concentration, his fitness and his skill level to come out and do it. So, it’s got to be well played,” he added.
