Metallica made sure to get fans pumped and rocked their opening act at the final Black Sabbath show in Birmingham, England.
The ‘80s heavy metal band followed the performances of other legendary groups at the Saturday, July 5, “Back to the Beginning” concert – including Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Ghost and The Smashing Pumpkins. Metallica, led by frontman James Hetfield, performed two of their songs and covered four Black Sabbath hits.
Honoring the band of the evening, Metallica kicked off their set with Black Sabbath’s “Hole in the Sky” before smashing their own singles “Creeping Death” and “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” They concluded the performance with Black Sabbath’s “Johnny Blade,” “Battery” and “Master of Puppets.”
Black Sabbath’s final show at their home city marked a full-circle moment for the founding band members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, as it is their first time performing together in 20 years.
