Kelly Clarkson's highly anticipated Las Vegas residency isn't going forward as scheduled.
The 18-show residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace was set to kick off tonight (July 4) but shortly before showtime, Clarkson announced that the show couldn't go on. While the shocking news was upsetting to fans, many of whom were already waiting in line, Clarkson reassured everyone that the residency would be back on track after this weekend.
She took to Instagram to share that after extensive preparations for the show, performing this weekend could have meant serious damage to her vocal cords.
"We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans. I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow’s opening at Caesars," Clarkson wrote on her account.
She continued, "The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice. I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve."

Clarkson added that the show is "truly incredible" and she wants to be able to kick off the residency when she's able to give her best performance.
"The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. I can't wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on," Clarkson wrote.
While fans shared their disappointment in the comments, they were incredibly understanding of the situation.
"I came from Mexico just for the show for my birthday. It's sad, but I understand. Ur health comes first," one fan wrote, while another added, "Ughhhh I was so excited for opening night. We were ALL so excited waiting in line all day. I hope you feel better."
As of now, it's unclear when this weekend's shows will be rescheduled. Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions - The Las Vegas Residency will now kick off on July 11 and run through Aug. 16. It's set to pick back up again from Nov. 7 to Nov. 15.
