It was an emotional night in Cardiff on July 4, 2025, when legendary English rock band Oasis reunited for the first time in 16 years and paid tribute to Liverpool and Portugal soccer star Diogo Jota, 28, in the process.
The '90s rock band, lead by formerly estranged brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, honored the fallen athlete during their song "Live Forever" at the first night of their Oasis Live '25 Tour by showing his bright red #20 jersey on the screen during the touching song, which includes lyrics like "Now is not the time to cry/Now's the time to find out why/I think you're the same as me/We see things they'll never see/You and I are gonna live forever."
The intense moment came after an unbearable tragedy one day prior, when Jota and his 25-year-old brother, André Silva, died in a car accident in Spain. Jota is a father of three who married his longtime love Rute Cardoso just two weeks before the crash.

— Men in Blazers (@MenInBlazers) July 4, 2025Jota's team, Liverpool Football Club, took to Instagram with a heartfelt message after news of his passing. "This tragic situation and the reality of it is truly shocking, devastating and has left us numb with grief," they wrote. "Beyond the player that we all knew, was a wonderfully humble human being, he was sincere, intelligent, funny, tough and created connections with people everywhere he went. He had a zest for life that was utterly contagious. Diogo was a loving father, son, husband and brother, and we, and everyone who knew him, will miss him deeply as we all try and process the enormity of today."
The Gallaghers are notorious Manchester City fans, so fans were especially touched to see them pay tribute to a member of their rival team. "Touch of class from Oasis at Cardiff tonight for Liverpool’s Diogo Jota. Fly high lad, ?" said one fan, while another added, "Oasis dedicating live forever to Diogo. Fair play to the Gallagher brothers. Unbelievable gesture ?❤️."

The evening was already set to be emotional for the brothers, who have been estranged for years. The July 4 show marked their first concert together in 16 years and first time seen in public together since the band split. They walked out on stage holding hands, and hugged during the performance. Noel even appeared to get emotional during the show.
The setlist from the first tour stop was full of fan-favorite hits, including "Wonderwall," "Champagne Supernova," “Don’t Look Back in Anger," and many more.
