Mizzou is working hard to pick up some momentum for the 2026 recruiting class, and Eli Drinkwitz and his staff picked up a key defensive player with a July 4 pledge.
On Friday, the Tigers landed a commitment from Tony Forney, a defensive back out of Georgia’s Kell High School in Marietta. Forney was on the radar of multiple top programs, eventually picking Mizzou over a final group that consisted of Auburn, Wisconsin and Pitt.
Now, he joins the Tigers as a 2nd defensive commitment in the 2026 recruiting class:

Forney is listed at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds and took his official visit to Mizzou toward the end of June. According to the 247 Sports Composite, he’s a 3-star prospect and the 67th safety in the nation for the class of 2026. Forney is also the 85th overall player out of Georgia for the cycle.
To this point, it has been a slow start for Mizzou’s recruiting class, with the Tigers just now up to 10 hard commitments for the cycle. Forney is just the 2nd player on the defensive side of the ball thus far, but the Tigers are beefing up on the offensive interior with 3 offensive linemen and a tight end from the current group.
