ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The State Health Department has issued a violation against the Monroe County Water Authority for a review that was done all the way back in 1998.
The water authority says 27 years ago, the health department mistakenly approved the water authority’s system that prevents lead and copper from leaking into your water.
They also say a corrosion control study is underway and expected to be finished next year.
People should expect to get a letter from the water authority. In the letter, it says your water quality has not changed and you don’t need to do anything.
It also lists steps people can take to reduce exposure to lead, which include the following:
Use only cold water for drinking, cooking, and preparing baby formula. Flush pipes any time water has been unused for more than 4-6 hours. Routinely clean faucet screens. Use a water filter that is certified NSF 53 to remove lead.To learn more, click here.
