Identical twin sisters Lilah and Ava Daniels, 17, are helping the House of U.S.A. in Balboa Park celebrate Independence Day’s 249th anniversary.
The event, on the park’s HPR International Lawn Stage from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, will feature speeches from historical figures about their contributions to the American Revolution, Lilah said.
According to the twins, there will be actors dressed as George Washington and Paul Revere, as well as William Lee — one of Washington’s slaves — and Dr. Joseph Warren.
Ava said that after a presentation of colors, the national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance, there will be food, including “a cake cutting ceremony.”
The Daniels, rising seniors at Canyon Crest Academy, said they attended the Independence Day parties at the House of Pacific Relations cottages in Balboa Park while growing up.
“We both have always loved history, which is why we wanted to volunteer at the house,” Lilah said.
She addd that Saturday’s event begins the House of U.S.A’s celebration marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence.“It’s kicking off a bunch of events that are going to happen all throughout the year,” she said.
