Watch: Ben Stokes fights with umpire after Yashasvi Jaiswal is allowed review despite DRS timer expiry

England National Cricket Team skipper Ben Stokes was engaged in a heated clash with the umpire Sharfuddoula during the second Test match against the India National Cricket Team.

Ben Stokes had a verbal spat with the umpire after the latter allowed Yashasvi Jaiswal to review his LBW decision after the DRS timer was seemingly up.

After India bowled out England for 407 and took a 180-run lead, opening batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul came out all guns blazing.

The duo batted with great intent and scored quick runs for India. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul stitched up a half-century partnership in 7.2 overs, which is the quickest for India in a Test in England, with the previous quickest coming in 8.2 overs at Trent Bridge in 2018.

Seeing English pacer Chris Woakes struggle, the veteran Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara, while speaking on BBC Test Match Special, said:

"Chris Woakes is just trying to bowl that back-of-length. On this pitch, it isn't working, and it definitely isn't working against KL Rahul; he's batting brilliantly. Things are just getting easier for the Indian batters. Everything this over has either been short or pitched up."

Meanwhile, on the fourth ball of the 8th over, which was bowled by Josh Tongue, a controversial incident erupted. Tongue bowled a fullish length delivery to Jaiswal from around the wicket, and the Indian batter went for a drive.

Yashasvi Jaiswal missed his shot and was hit on the front pad, and the on-field umpire instantly raised his finger after the appeal from the England players.

Jaiswal then had a long chat with his partner KL Rahul and decided to use a review. Notably, the left-handed batter signalled T just after 15 seconds were up on the DRS timer that was shown on the broadcast.

This didn't sit well with England skipper Ben Stokes, who instantly charged at umpire Sharfuddoula and asked him not to send the decision upstairs.

He had a heated discussion with the on-field umpires, and KL Rahul also intervened. There were boos around the ground, but eventually the review was accepted and the ball-tracking showed three reds.
