Paul Simon is set to take the stage just a few days after undergoing back surgery to ease the intense pain he’s been battling.
The legendary musician, 83, recently had surgery to address “severe back pain,” which forced him to cancel shows in Philadelphia on June 27 and 28.
A statement shared on Simon’s Instagram Thursday, July 3, confirmed that the surgery was a success, with Simon’s doctors reporting a smooth procedure. However, to ensure he performs at his best, the musician will need one extra day of rest. As a result, his concert on Monday, July 7, at The Terrace Theater in Long Beach, California, has been postponed by just one day to Tuesday, July 8.

“Thanks to a great team of doctors, the surgery went well, as expected,” the statement read. “However, it has become clear he will need one additional day of rest and recuperation to ensure he is able to perform at the top of his ability in Long Beach.”

The statement continued, “We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but Paul is looking forward to seeing everyone in Long Beach on Tuesday.” also stated that fans who are unable to attend the rescheduled show will be offered refunds, while all tickets will remain valid for the new date. The concert’s location will stay the same.
