Supreme Court allows Trump to deport migrants held in Djibouti to South Sudan

By John Fritze, CNN

(CNN) — The Supreme Court on Thursday said the Trump administration may deport to South Sudan a group of migrants that have been held for weeks on a military base in Djibouti.

The order came days after the high court allowed the administration to deport certain migrants to countries other than their homeland with little notice. But its June 23 decision kicked off a legal skirmish about a specific group of migrants that have been held in Djibouti.

In an unsigned order, the Supreme Court said that its earlier decision applied the lower court’s actions “in full.”

The decision drew dissents from two members of the court’s liberal wing, Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
