Catalina/Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches and Ventura County Beaches are included in an updated beach hazards statement issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. The statement is in effect until Saturday July 5, at 11 p.m.
“Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected,” the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA said. “This statement may be extended through Sunday evening.”
“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” according to the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
