Newcastle place second bid for Anthony Elanga after new club enters race

Newcastle have launched a £55million bid for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, talkSPORT understands.

It comes after Aston Villa entered the race for the 23-year-old, who enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 campaign.

Elanga was one of the standout wingers in the 2024/25 Premier League campaignGetty

It proved to be the most productive season so far from the 23-year-old‘s career as he chipped in with six goals 12 assists from 43 games in all competitions.

His dazzling displays helped Forest earn a spot in the UEFA Conference League.

Next term will be the first season that the Reds will be plying their trade across the continent in 30 years.

But it remains to be seen whether the 22-cap Sweden international will be at the City Ground to compete in Europe’s third-tier tournament.

The Magpies have made the former Manchester United forward one of their top targets this summer.

Forest previously rejected a £45million bid from Newcastle earlier in the window.

Meanwhile, their latest offer has also come in below Forest’s asking price for the wideman.

It is believed that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side do not want to part ways with Elanga, who they signed for £15m in 2023.

talkSPORT understands that Forest will not sell Elanga unless they receive a fee in excess of £60m.

Like Forest, both Newcastle and Villa will be eyeing up European silverware next season.

Though the Toon can offer Champions League football, as opposed to the Villans who will be testing themselves in the Europa League.

But should Newcastle miss out on Elanga to Villa, it would represent the latest transfer blow for the Carabao Cup holders.

Brighton striker Joao Pedro was earmarked a top target, only for Chelsea to hijack their deal to sign the Brazilian.

Newcastle had been in talks with the Seagulls since May, but acted too slow in their negotiations.

Meanwhile, they also appear resigned to missing out on Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils are in pole position to land the 25-year-old should he depart the Gtech Commonity Stadium.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe isn’t having much luck so far this window in landing his top targetsAFP

And Newcastle were also in for Dean Huijsen after the defender starred at Bournemouth in the recent season.

However, Huijsen ultimately decided to join Real Madrid in a £50m transfer.

And Newcastle could finish the window without star man Anthony Gordon, who is on Liverpool’s radar ahead of a possible £100m swoop.
