Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has been doing exceptionally well as an opener in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025 (TNPL 2025). Ravichandran Ashwin is currently the fifth leading run scorer in the tournament with 275 runs in 8 games at a stunning strike rate of 162.72.
The former Indian off-spinner has already scalped 12 wickets in the 8 games while leading the Dindigul Dragons in the ongoing TNPL 2025. Well, Ashwin had saved his best for the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025 Eliminator between Dindigul Dragons and Trichy Grand Cholas at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul on Wednesday, July 2. He delivered the Player of the Match performance to take Dindigul Dragons to Qualifier 2.
The Dindigul Dragons captain first delivered with the ball, as he finished with the brilliant figures of 3/28 in his four overs to help his team restrict Trichy Grand Cholas to 140/9 in 20 overs. Ganeshan Periyaswamy and Varun Chakaravarthy each have also scalped two wickets in the Eliminator.
Ravichandran Ashwin smashes 83 off 48 as Dindigul Dragons storm into TNPL 2025 Qualifier 2
Chasing the target, Ravichandran Ashwin started aggressively and single-handedly took the Dragons to the TNPL 2025 Qualifier 2, where they will face Chepauk Super Gillies on July 4 in Dindigul. Notably, Tiruppur Tamizhans have already qualified for the TNPL 2025 Final scheduled for June 6 at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul.
Ashwin played a remarkable knock of 83 runs off just 48 balls, laced with 11 boundaries and 3 sixes, as Dindigul Dragons chased down the target inside 17 overs against Trichy Grand Cholas.
Baba Indrajith remained unbeaten on 27 off 29 balls as the Dragons thrashed Trichy by six wickets in the Eliminator on Wednesday. K. Easwaran was the standout bowler for Trichy Grand Cholas with two wickets against the Dragons.

Ravichandran Ashwin enjoys success as an opener in TNPL
Notably, Ashwin has been making waves with the bat in the TNPL. He has only opened the innings two times in the IPL—once each for Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. But since the last Tamil Nadu Premier League season, he has been regularly opening for the Dragons.
In the 2024 TNPL, Ashwin surprised many by finishing fifth on the leading run-scorers' chart. His ability to play smart, fearless cricket at the top of the order has added a new dimension to his game, and this season also, he is turning heads with his impressive batting.
