Egypt on Wednesday expressed its harsh rejection of recent statements by several Israeli officials regarding the imposition of Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.
The latest of these was a statement by the Israeli Minister of Justice explicitly calling for the annexation of Palestinian lands.
In an official statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cairo affirmed that these declarations are a flagrant violation of international legitimacy and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Egypt noted that such statements aim to legitimize Israel’s illegal occupation and undermine opportunities for achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
Any attempts to impose a “fait accompli” policy through settlement expansion and illegal annexation are a serious infringement on the rights of the Palestinian people, the statement emphasized.
They also undermine the foundations of the two-state solution, including the Palestinians’ right to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Egypt further condemned the escalating Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank, which include military incursions, arbitrary arrests, and illegal settlement expansion. The ministry highlighted that these practices coincide with the “bloody aggression” endured by the Gaza Strip, which threatens the very fabric of life there.
Finally, Egypt called upon the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities and act immediately to halt the grave violations faced by the Palestinian people.
The statement underscored the necessity of concerted international efforts to support the legitimate aspirations of Palestinians, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state on their entire national territory.
