talkSPORT betting tips – Best football bets and expert advice for Thursday 3 July

The Club World Cup has been hogging the limelight this summer, but the Gold Cup is continuing at a pace and the action in Canada and the USA is reaching fever pitch with the competition down to the final four, while the Women’s European Championship is also set to kick off this week.

USA take on Guatemala in the Gold Cup semi-finals, while Spain Women begin their bid for European glory against Portugal, and Italy face Belgium in the same competition.

Bet of the Day – Spain -3 goal handicap vs Portugal @ 7/4

Spain Women are warm favourites for European Championship glory this summer and La Roja can begin their campaign in the perfect manner with a comfortable win over Portugal.

The pair meet at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern in Switzerland on Thursday, and it’s fair to say the Portuguese are unlikely to be looking forward to the encounter given their recent meetings.

Spain have won the last five contests with their Iberian rivals and they have handed out some pastings along the way. A pair of Nations League meetings in April saw the Spanish run out 7-1 and 4-2 winners, and their form leading into this competition has been impressive.

Montserrat Tome’s side have won eight of their last nine matches in all competitions, and only England in a 1-0 win in February have stopped La Roja scoring in that run.

In contrast, Portugal head to Switzerland in miserable shape and backing Spain to cover a three-goal handicap looks a decent bet.

The Portuguese have lost four of their last five matches and have failed to score in their last three while conceding nine goals along the way.

Special of the Day – Italy Women to win, over 3.5 goals & Cristiana Girelli to score at any time @ 6/1

Italy Women and Belgium Women have been placed in a tough European Championship group alongside Spain and Portugal, so neither nation can afford to make a slow start in Switzerland on Thursday.

The pair open their campaigns at the Stade Tourbillon in Sion and they will need to hit the ground running to get out of the group.

Spain are red-hot favourites to win the tournament and the section, but Italy will fancy their chances of following La Roja into the knockout stage as they have been in great form recently.

The Italians have won six of their last 10 matches, and they have scored three or more goals in four of their last five outings.

They are fancied to beat Belgium in a contest featuring at least four goals and it may pay to back Italy star Cristiana Girelli getting in on the action.

The veteran Juventus striker has bagged 53 goals in 102 appearances and she is in good nick, scoring three goals in her last two outings.

This is likely to be her final major tournament, so Girelli will be keen to sign off in style.

Longshot of the Day – Guatemala to qualify @ 19/5

It is a longshot but Guatemala to qualify ahead of USA in the Gold Cup semi-finals may not be as far-fetched as it sounds.

The Americans are narrow favourites to win the competition but they have been far from their best in the tournament and needed penalties to get past Costa Rica in the quarter finals.

Pressure has been building on head coach Mauricio Pochettino in the build up to the tournament, as the Stars & Stripes lost to Panama and Canada prior to the Gold Cup.

A convincing 5-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago helped matters on matchday one but subsequent narrow wins over Saudi Arabia (1-0) and Haiti (2-1), have done little to build confidence and Guatemala, who knocked out Canada in the last eight, will do all they can to frustrate their hosts.

Extra-time and penalties may not be out of the question and anything could happen if the match reaches that stage.
