Jofra Archer has officially rejoined the England National Cricket Team in Birmingham hours before the second Test of the ongoing five-match Test series against India at Edgbaston. However, Jofra Archer is not part of England’s Playing XI for the second Test against India, starting on July 2.
The hosts have already named an unchanged playing XI that won the first Test against India by five wickets in Headingley for the second Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test at the Edgbaston Stadium. However, the ECB didn’t reveal why Archer was not named in the XI despite clearing the fitness test.
Well, the Barbados-born fast bowler might not be part of the playing XI, but his presence is a big boost for the England cricket team and a big signal that he is going to play in the third Test at Lord’s. He recently made his red-ball comeback with Surrey in the ongoing County Championship 2025.

Meanwhile, as reported by Revsportz, Jofra Archer had missed Monday’s (June 30) training session due to a family emergency but returned on Tuesday (July 1) and hit the nets in full rhythm. Under the watchful eye of bowling coach Tim Southee, Archer bowled with full intensity during the team’s final practice session at Edgbaston.
The fiery paceman bowled mostly to England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley. Before the intense training session, Jofra was also seen chatting with England managing director Rob Key, hinting at possible plans for his immediate return to the side against India.

Chris Woakes was quoted as saying by Sky Sports at the pre-match press conference, “Brilliant for Jof, brilliant for us as a team. It is a big boost to have him back. When Jof is around, he adds a lot to the group, not only as a player but as a person and as a character.”
His best is probably still ahead of him: Chris Woakes
Woakes believes that Archer still has his best years ahead and is excited to see what he can do when he returns to Test cricket. He also highlighted how much Archer brings to the group, both as a player and a person, and hopes fans will soon get to enjoy seeing him in action again.
He added, “His best is probably still ahead of him. I'm sure he's chomping at the bit to get back out there and show people what he has already done in the whites. We all know how good he can be, but he's at an age where his best is still ahead of him, which is exciting for him and us. Hopefully, when he does get back out there, it will be great to have him back and great for the fans.”
