Spotlight
The 2025 Concerts on the Green free music series at Kate Sessions Park kicks off on July 13 with Pacific Records Fest.
The San Diego-based label will showcase six of its artists, including reggae favorites Sandollar, surf rockers The Tourmaliners, singer Kela Sako, Hawaiian-themed combo Slack Key Ohana, blues artist Shane Hall, and meditative musician Kristina Bennett.
All are headliners, but particularly hot right now are Sandollar, whose mix of infectious reggae beats and pop hooks has seen them become firm summer festival favorites, as well as have their music included in television programs such as Netflix’s “Outer Banks,” and Slack Key Ohana, who were recently nominated for album of the year at the 48th Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards in Hawaii.
This concert will be a wonderful opportunity to take in some of San Diego’s top rising talent in one of the most scenic locations.
Pacific Records Fest: Sunday, July 13 at Kate Sessions Park, 5115 Soledad Road. 4 p.m. Free. pbtowncouncil.org/concerts-on-the-green.

Fans of 1960s rock and pop tunes won’t want to miss the return of the Happy Together tour to Humphreys Concerts by the Bay on July 11.
On hand will be an amazing roster of the era’s hitmakers, including The Turtles, Jay & The Americans, Little Anthony, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, The Vogues, and The Cowsills, collectively responsible for over 60 Top 40 favorites.
All are great performers, with former San Diegan Puckett sure to be among the night’s biggest crowd-pleasers. However, one of the concert’s loudest cheers is likely to be for an artist not listed, Ron Dante, who will be filling in on vocals for the Turtles and will add his hits from his former bands to the mix, including “Sugar Sugar” by The Archies and “Tracy” by The Cufflinks.
Happy Together Tour: Friday, July 11 at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay, 2241 Shelter Island Drive. 7:30 p.m. $84. humphreysconcerts.com.
Yachtley Crew
The kings of the 1970s soft rock revival, Yachtley Crew, return to San Diego for a show at the Epstein Family Amphitheatre on July 11. The band has become one of the hottest touring acts in the U.S. by performing an ever-changing set of 1970s-era Top 40 tunes originally recorded by Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins, and Pilot.
However, what sets Yachtley Crew apart from their like-minded 70s-themed contemporaries is that they also perform original music. Their latest single, “Pain of Losing You,” shows Yachtley Crew to be just as good at creating catchy melodies as the artists they started paying tribute to.
Yachtley Crew: Friday, July 11 at the Epstein Family Amphitheater, 9500 Gilman Drive. 8 p.m. $35-$65. amphitheater.ucsd.edu.
Humphrey’s Backstage Live
On July 13, the San Diego jazz community will gather at Humphreys Backstage Live to celebrate the life of acclaimed drummer Kevin Koch, who passed away last month.
Koch performed with many artists over the past five decades but is best known as a founding member of the award-winning band, Fattburger. Koch and his bandmates helped set the template for much of the smooth jazz scene happening today, releasing music via labels such as Blue Note and Capitol Records since 1986.
An all-star roster of musical friends will be on hand at this event to perform in Koch’s memory, a fitting tribute to a local legend.
Kevin Koch Celebration of Life: Sunday, July 13 at Humphreys Backstage Live, 2241 Shelter Island Drive. 5 p.m. humphreysbackstagelive.com.
Concerts by the Sea
Long-running swing dance band Big Time Operator will headline the first date of the 2025 Concerts by the Sea music series, taking place at Scripps Park on July 13.
There have been many lineup changes in the band since its inception in the 1990s, but their dedication to getting the look and sound of a 1940s big band just right remains the same.
Big Time Operator’s music ranges from Sinatra crooners to Benny Goodman stompers, a great soundtrack for an afternoon at one of San Diego’s most scenic waterfront parks.
Big Time Operator: Sunday, July 13 at Scripps Park, 1133 Coast Blvd. 3:30 p.m. Free. kiwanisclublajolla.org/event/concerts-by-the-sea.
The Conrad
When it comes to music labels, none have likely had the overall cultural influence of Motown Records.
Their signature tagline, “The Sound of Young America,” was spot on, with Motown scoring one of the all-time greatest runs of hits during the 1960s and 1970s, including a long string of classics from The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and many more.
On July 13, Baker Baum Hall will host The Magical Music of Motown, showcasing a selection of the storied label’s best-known songs, from “Dancing in the Streets” to “Can You Feel It.” Fans of soul music and R&B will love every second of this show.
The Magical Music of Motown: Sunday, July 13 at The Baker Baum Concert Hall at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, 7600 Fay Ave. 4 p.m. $45-$95. theconrad.org.
