SEVERAL kinds of lunch meats were recalled across the US after officials discovered they might contain a different type of meat.
Multiple types of bologna from Gaiser’s European Service Provisions Inc. were recalled due to containing “meat or poultry source materials” that weren’t on the product labels.
The recalls affected more than 143,416 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service.
Seven products, all produced between March 20 and June 20, 2025, were affected by the recall.
Each item has the establishment number “EST. 5385” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product labels, according to the recall notice.
“Some products would have been weighed, wrapped, and labeled in retail store locations at the time of purchase,” read the notice.
The issue was found when the FSIS was told by the Office of Inspector General of a complaint received through the agency’s hotline.
“FSIS investigated the complaint and determined that the products contained source materials that were not declared on the label,” read the notice.
“Although FSIS does not expect any adverse health effects for Class III recalled products and there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.”
Thankfully, the recall is considered a Class III, meaning that it’s unlikely that eating the products will cause any harmful health effects.
Still, FSIS is worried that the products may still be in customers’ freezers and refrigerators and is urging people who bought the bologna not to eat it.
“Restaurants and institutions are urged not to serve these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
