From the historic spectacle of USS Midway Museum to the solemnity of Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, reminders of San Diego’s patriotism are everywhere. And on Independence Day we show it with fireworks from Carlsbad to Imperial Beach.

Here is Times of San Diego’s annual guide to the fireworks, with your best options on July 4, 2025.

Leading the list as usual is the Port of San Diego‘s annual Big Bay Boom, one of the largest fireworks shows in the nation.

The pyrotechnics are launched beginning at 9 p.m. from four barges anchored off the south embarcadero, north embarcadero, Harbor Island and Shelter Island.

The most popular areas to watch are at Shelter Island, Spanish Landing Park, Harbor Island, Embarcadero Parks North and South, Seaport Village, Cesar Chavez Park, and the Coronado Ferry Landing. .

Make sure to arrive early, bring a lawn chair and tune a radio to the musical simulcast on KGB 101.5 FM radio.

To ease the traffic, the Metropolitan Transit System is scheduling trolleys on the Green and Blue lines every 15 minutes before the start of fireworks and after the big boom. Complete holiday schedules are available online.

The Big Bay Boom has taken place every year since 2001, except for a pause in 2020 due to the pandemic.

“The Port of San Diego is proud to sponsor the Big Bay Boom and invites San Diegans and visitors to enjoy this incredible celebration,” said Port Chairman Rafael Castellanos. “The Big Bay Boom is one of the port’s iconic holiday events and is a significant economic stimulus for local businesses.”
