Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has broken his silence in the aftermath of his loss to Jake Paul with a strange claim.
The Mexican was out-pointed by the YouTuber-turned-boxer in an unanimous decision verdict on Saturday in Anaheim.
Chavez Jr was awarded no more than three rounds by any of the judges and didn’t win one until the eighth on the official scorecards.
The former WBC middleweight champion was thoroughly out-worked by Paul as he landed just 61 punches from 154 thrown compared to the latter’s tally of 140 landed from 482 thrown.
Yet in a video shared on his Instagram story, Chavez Jr boldly claimed ‘whoever the judges want, wins’.
“I could never knock him out,” Chavez Jr said.
“I couldn’t knock out Jake Paul. Whoever the judges want, wins.
“I put on a great show and well, I hit him in the a** like I said I was going to.
“He said he was gonna drive me crazy, no, no. I am ready for what’s next, thank you everyone.”
The bout was Chavez Jr’s second in three-and-a-half years and his first since July 2024, which was a win over former UFC middleweight Uriah Hall.
As for Paul, it was his first since he beat Mike Tyson in a record-breaking event last November.
Following his victory in Anaheim, Paul announced his hit-list to the world which included three world champions.
Chavez Jr made quite the puzzling admission on social mediaGetty“I want tougher fighters,” Paul remarked.
“I want to be world champion. Zurdo (Ramirez) looked slow as s*** tonight, that’d be easy work too.
“Badou Jack, I want everybody. Anthony Joshua, Gervonta (Davis) and Tommy (Fury), stop running.”
Paul’s aspirations of becoming a world champion may not be as far fetched as it first seemed given he is set to catapult into the WBC and WBA’s cruiserweight rankings with a win over Chavez Jr.
However, ‘El Gallo’ may have to wait some time if he wants Ramirez, who holds the WBO and WBA titles.
The 34-year-old retained his titles with a unanimous decision victory over Yuniel Dorticos and in the aftermath declared he wants a unification bout against IBF champ Jai Opetaia.
Getty‘El Gallo’ is ready for bigger and better challenges for his 14th professional bout[/caption]“(Opetaia) is the fight that I want,” Ramirez stated.
“I’m the king. Get my phone (number) and call me. I want it. Be ready.”
Bouts against Joshua and Davis appear unlikely given the former is a heavyweight and ‘Tank’ fights in the lightweight division, some 30kg lighter than the cruiserweight limit.
As for Jack, he retained his WBC cruiserweight title in May against Noel Mikaelian.
Meanwhile, Fury – the only man to have beaten Paul – last fought on May 9 as he out-pointed Kenan Hanjalic in Hungary.
