Conor McGregor had nothing negative to say about Ilia Topuria’s incredible win over Charles Oliveira at UFC 317.
McGregor said ‘no one can deny’ the huge knockout Topuria produced in just 147 seconds during the Las Vegas main event to become the promotion’s new lightweight champion.
Topuria’s win extended his undefeated UFC record to nine in a row, with the Georgian-born Spanish fighter set to make his first title defence by the end of the year.
The victory also put him in an exclusive club, alongside names like McGregor, of fighters who have won UFC titles in two different divisions.
Topuria faced off with Liverpool’s MMA star Paddy Pimblett, who could fight for the belt next, in the Octagon after the fight.
McGregor found the pair’s interaction amusing as he outlined his thoughts on the main event clash.
“Congrats on winning my old titles, Ilia!” McGregor wrote on his X account, referring to his time as a double-champ in 2016.
“He said he gonna rest his [expletive] on Paddy’s head too hahah fair play.
“Good [lightweight] scrap that one is as well [in my opinion]. UFC is back? Or still missing something..?
“[Three] KO back-to-back is very good. No one can deny the knockout. I like [Topuria]
“Unlucky to Charles also. Styles make fights! You are a tremendous and legendary UFC fighter. Rest up.”
McGregor’s comments may be come as a surprise to some MMA fans, given the relationship he has developed with Topuria in the last few months.

Topuria had grown disillusioned with the Irishman ahead of UFC 317, having previously stated the Irishman is ‘no what he once was.’
‘El Matador’ once looked up to McGregor as an idol for his fighting career.
But, back in November, he explained why that was no longer the case.
“Myself and a lot of other people, I know, wanted to follow in his footsteps,” Topuria said.
“Because he was an example of faith that everything can be achieved through [hard] work, consistency, effort.
“And he lost all of that because he betrayed the values that led him to all of his success.”
Topuria has the potential to become the UFC’s biggest star, if he isn’t alreadyGettyTopuria’s victory at UFC 317 has put him one step closer to achieving the worldwide superstardom McGregor experienced in his heyday.
The 28-year-old has knocked out three UFC legends in his last three appearances, stopping Alexander Volkanovski in at UFC 298 in February 2024 to win the featherweight title.
Eight months later, ‘El Matador’ knocked Max Holloway out cold to retain the belt before deciding he was done at 145 lbs.
On Saturday night, Topuria moved back up to lightweight and brutally knocked out Oliveira at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to become the new king of the 155 lbs division.
He will fight one of Pimblett, Justin Gaethje or Arman Tsarukyan next, but several MMA fans are calling for ex-lightweight champion Islam Makhachev to stay in the division and contest a super-fight with Topuria.
Elsewhere at UFC 317, Alexandre Pantoja defended his flyweight title against Kai Kara-France, while Joshua Van claimed a unanimous decision over Brandon Royval in his second fight in three weeks.
