AVON, N.Y. – Residents in Avon have been dealing with flash flooding along Wadsworth Street. News10NBC’s Marsha Augustin spoke with neighbors as they worked to clear the water.
One neighbor who recently moved to the area had roughly 12 inches of water in her front yard Friday afternoon. After heavy rainfall hit the region. “We’re in the middle of another flood I guess. Like biblical times all over again. I don’t know what to say. I was going to say it’s the first for us but it’s the second for us, Brianna Stob said.”
Dean Vanhurken, a resident for 11 years, was not surprised by the flooding. “I’ve seen it before so yeah I expected it before I left,” said Vanhurken.
Emergency crews used a pump to remove water from Stob’s basement, depositing it into her front yard. Despite the situation, Stob maintained a positive outlook.
“Oh no I am. I absolutely am,” Stob said about her frustration. “Deep down it’s there. But since the last time when I did freak out. It didn’t lead to anything obviously and doesn’t help anything. I learned you just have to roll with it and hope for the best.”
Stob expressed gratitude that no one was hurt and hoped her furnace remained undamaged. She plans to be better prepared for future weather events.
“You know what I’ll do that right now, I promise you that. I absolutely will I need those alerts,” Stob said about downloading the News10NBC weather app.
In the meantime neighbors plan to wait for the water to recede.
