PHOENIX — The Triple-A Reno Aces placed Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Jordan Lawlar on the seven-day injured list with a grade 1 hamstring strain, manager Torey Lovullo said on Friday.
Lovullo said Lawlar’s hamstring bit him while he was running up the first-base line in a game on Wednesday. Lawlar missed Reno’s previous four games while dealing with hamstring tightness before coming back and suffering the injury.
He is expected to miss “weeks, not days.”

Since the Diamondbacks optioned Lawlar on May 29, Lawlar had continued to crush Triple-A pitching. He slashed .300/.425/.633 in June with four home runs, five steals, 12 walks and 18 strikeouts, raising his season OPS in Triple-A to .993.
Lawlar was recalled to the major league team on May 12, but he struggled to find success against big league pitching, notably offspeed pitches.
After an 0-for-19 stint, he went back down to Reno to work on his game. Defensively, Lawlar came up to play second base, shortstop and third base, with second base being a newer position that he experienced growing pains playing.
The Diamondbacks brought back Ildemaro Vargas to take Lawlar’s spot when they sent him down. Vargas on Tuesday suffered a fractured foot on a hit-by-pitch at the Chicago White Sox, and Arizona recalled Blaze Alexander for infield depth while Lawlar was dealing with the hamstring tightness. It is unclear whether or not Lawlar would have come back up or continued to work in the minors.
Jordan Lawlar’s IL stint latest for D-backs
Lawlar’s injury piles on the absurd collection of D-backs injuries in June, as Arizona placed Vargas, Corbin Carroll (wrist) and Gabriel Moreno (finger) on the IL in the past couple weeks, while Eugenio Suarez missed a couple games with a hand contusion.
Suarez returned to the lineup on Friday against the Miami Marlins. He did not get an MRI to check out his hand after it was hit by a pitch on Monday.
