Deontay Wilder has little-known boxing brother who retired with unremarkable 5-3 record

Marsellos is probably not the first name that you think of when you hear ‘Wilder’.

Deontay Wilder‘s younger brother also had a career in boxing in his sights, although he retired after losing three of his eight professional bouts (5-3).

The 36-year-old made his pro debut aged 33 in 2018, just months before Deontay’s first fight with Tyson Fury.

He began his career with three straight wins, two by first-round knockout and one via unanimous decision.

But he encountered a setback in his fourth fight when he was KO’d with one punch by William Deets in January 2019.

The younger Wilder had three more wins that year, though his win against Mark Sanchez was later overturned into a no-contest.

His positive streak lasted until he entered the ring with Dustin Long, on his older brother’s undercard in November 2019.

Then-WBC heavyweight champion,Deontay, went on to retain his belt with a stunning knockout against Ortiz later that night.

However, Marsellos found himself on the other end of the knockout when Long flattened him with a left hook in the fourth round.

Long had a record of just 2-1-2 at the time, but he was able to flip the script by stopping Marsellos, who was up on every scorecard when the fight was waved off.

With the two embarrassing losses on his record, Marsellos took some time out of the ring.

Returning three years later in 2022 to fight for the eighth and final time in his career, his bout with Eric Abraham ended his career on a split decision loss.

His older brother is now set to return to the ring on Friday to fight Tyrrell Anthony Herndon.

His fight on June 28 against journeyman Herndon is expected to finish early, as his opponent has been stopped quickly several times.

With a remarkable 43-4-1 professional record, marked by a relentless string of devastating knockouts delivered with either hand, Deontay has stopped, or knocked out, 42 of the 43 opponents that he’s beaten.

After winning the world heavyweight title in 2015 and successfully defending it with nine knockouts, Wilder was dethroned by Tyson Fury in 2020.

However, there was no disgrace in that defeat, or in the trilogy a year later, which turned out to be one of the most thrilling heavyweight title fights in recent history.
